Sport Climbing Clinic
Saturday, Feb 22, 2020 (2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)
PLEASE NOTE: This clinic will have 2 available "general" spots. The 4 waitlisted spots are priority for those interested in going on the spring break trip to Red Rocks, but do not have the skills to get their sport lead rating at the moment. If you have any questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
New to climbing? Only ever been on a top rope? Want to know how to look more legit at the crag? Want a refresher on leading skills before heading outside? If you answered yes to any of these, then you may want to learn how to sport climb!
Hoofer Mountaineering is offering a sport climbing clinic at the Sett Climbing Wall in Union South. This clinic will take you through the necessary skills needed to sport climb outdoors. While sport leading is a component of this, most of the skills that we will be covering do not require you lead a route if you are not comfortable with doing so.
Participation this clinic will expose you to the skills that are required to obtain your General Lead rating from the Club, but WILL NOT grant you that rating. You will have to schedule a time with the President or another member of the Executive Board to test for your General Lead rating. This rating is necessary for some of the trips that the club takes, and will allow you to check out quickdraws, ropes, and personal anchor systems from the gear locker.
Clinics are capped at 6 participants. You must purchase a Sett day pass or have a membership to the Sett to be in the climbing area. You can get a discounted price as a Hoofer member by getting a membership verification from the Outdoor UW office in Memorial Union and bringing it with you.
