Description

Join us for our Welcome Weekend event! We will be going to Devil's Lake to climb. All skill levels are welcome! HMC membership isn't required, come check out us out and see if you enjoy rock climbing. Sign up for the full weekend, with or without transportation.  We want to be able to gauge how many people are roughly coming. 

If you are interested in being a trip leader for Welcome Weekend (anchor setting, camp site manager, cook, beginner skills instructor, lead vocalist in our fireside band etc.) please reach out to Regan via email at mountaineering@hoofers.org.

Summary:

Welcome Weekend is a weekend of camping and climbing which serves as a way for people to "trial run" our club. The cost is $20 and no membership is required. We are going to be camping Friday night, so get ready for lots of sitting around the campfire and enjoying each other's company. On Saturday morning, our trip leaders are going to set up an abundance of anchors and ropes so participants can get out and climb! There will be people to help with climbing skills if needed (belaying, tying in, heel hook beta, etc). We will camp Saturday night, with a cookout dinner provided, and return on Sunday.

Hard Details: 

There are 20 spots available for participants who are camping. Dinner will be provided Saturday. You must have your own camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad). Packing list and resources to rent camping gear if needed will be sent to participants before the date. Please let the trip leaders know well in advance if you need to borrow gear; shoes are available for rental from the OUW office and the HMC gear locker has helmets and harnesses available for free. 

There are 20 other spots available for those not camping.  Ride sharing will be available and coordinated after sign-up. 

Transportation: 

For those signing up for transportation, we will be renting Fleet Vehicles as a transportation option for an additional $10 to cover the cost.  For those that want to figure out transportation on their own, a trip leader will send out an informal sign up sheet for people who would like to arrange carpooling. The Club is not providing this transportation and cannot promise its availability. 

Cost: 

Cost is $20 this includes camping.  Transportation is an additional $10.
